Meeting Information

We meet Thursdays at lunch in Mrs. Jacobsen's room (303).  Be sure to eat your lunch first and be present for the meeting from 12:10-12:30 p.m.

We are learning the basics of Speech and Debate during the first part of the school year.  In November, we plan to have a Speech and Debate Club presentation at Barnes and Nobel in Oceanside, CA.

 When watching speeches, students should be paying specific attention to:

*  Pacing of speech

*  The way candidates are dressed and groomed

*  The questions and role of the facilitator

*  The way the speaker addresses his oponent and crowd (which direction they are facing, etc.)

*  Hand movements and gestures

*  How does the speaker act when they are not speaking?

*  Do the speakers repeat words like "uh," "um," or "O.K."?

*  Does the speaker use notecards, a teleprompter, etc.?
